CapeDory 33 "BANDOLERA II"

WE DID IT! Kathie made the offer and was accepted and we are now the new owners of a 1982 CD33.5 hull #73. I guess I'll be asking lots of questions in the days to come. I have owned a 1980 CD 25 all these years, but it was time to move up, and it finally happened! The new boat is awsome and beautiful. My baby CapeDory is now for sale. But the big one is so similar, that it seems the baby just grew up. We seem to know almost everything about the new boat. However, does anyone know if there are real mattresses made for boats..? I would love to have them made to replace the interior cushions. Also, where can we buy some sheets? Down here in Miami, in lovely Biscayne Bay, we do lots of cruising and overnighting down to the keys... our new boat has A/C and is wonderful inside.

Zeida,

I just had new v-berth cushions made for my CD33 by S&S Fabrics of Portsmouth NH (HQ is in RI). They did an excellent job -- they fit better than the original. I'm sure there must be companies in your area that could do this.

The original cushions were 4" standard/cheap foam. I had the new ones made with 5" high density foam, which makes a big difference -- one doesn't "hit bottom" any more. And of course when you have new cushions made, you have a huge choice of fabric coverings, in case you are not partial to the ugly (IMHO) plaid originally used on many Cape Dorys.

As far as sheets go, I find that a regular bed sheet tucked around the cushion works just fine.

The other cushions on my CD came with nice terry-cloth covers, which are easily removed and washed. I'm guessing they were made by the previous owner.
