and on Sunday a Great Day on the Bay in a 74' Schooner.

Then a lunch at McGarvey's and a stroll around State Circle and back to watch the finishes of several races at the Annapolis City Dock/Marina.

Commodore Sharon, you did a wonderful wonderful job. Even ordered the perfect weather.

Flyin out in the early AM.

Mitch, I love your city.

Fair winds.

Bill,
I agree Sharon planned a wonderful event. The fair & lovely and I had a wonderful time. I think everyone did.

Caryl, the sea song singer, told me that she has been playing for sailors/cruises/clubs and such for years, and the CDSOA was the best group she ever entertained. She's right;we're swell.

Annual meeting

Post by jerryaxler »

I was motoring out of Annapolis harbor last sunday, when my SO(significant other) noticed a noisy group on a schooner. I informed her that it was only the usual raucous group of CDers.
Hopefully, I will get her to join up for your next gam.

Jerry, we saw thee!

Your CD36 didn't escape our attention. We saw you motor out with the main up just before the Woodwind left the dock. You had such a turn of speed, most of us thought you were sailing without the benefit of the iron jenny. :D :D :D

We had a nice slow sail but a lot of fun. Hope to get out on the bay sometime. Sure wished we had warmer climes up north.

Yes we ALL saw you, I've got the photo to prove it...

And we wondered why you were on the wrong boat!

Here are some snapshots taken aboard the Woodwind on Sunday morning. We all had a great time and a full weekend.

:D Thank you to Sharon and everyone else who made the weekend so special.

 After their dreadful performance Sunday night, I'm sorry we left for home as soon as we docked to see the Patriots game. We actually made it back home 5 minutes before kick-off,but we should have stayed in Annapolis!

I have video too, I'll try to get some snippets posted soon.

Another CD28 powerboat in photos

Post by Ned Kroeker »

And there is another CD28 power boat, an open fisherman, at the City Dock. "Beautiful Swimmer", hull #067.

Amazing how many CD power boats there are, just from this small sample of backgrounds.... lol.

Thanks Sharon and the whole crew for a nice program. This doesn't happen by accident, but by a lot of work by many dedicated volunteers.

Here are our photos. Note if you click on the thumbnails it will bring up the full size images, warning they are very large. Each picture is about 2.5M so they are not dialup friendly!

CDSAO 10th Annual Mtg. Pics from Liberte and of the Woodwind

Post by skairis »

Here are a few pictures taken on board Liberte, the Schooner and of the the Schooner Woodwind during the 10th Annual Meetings weekend's Brunch and Cruise on Sunday, November 5, 2006.

You'll notice the picture quality from a $7 disposable camera isn't the best, but the pictures certainly capture the participation of all on board interacting with Captain Chris and Jan!

A good time was had by all. The coffee was hot and the brunch was delicious, especially the Scones!

CDSOA'10th Annual Meeting Pictures on Liberte', The Schooner
Pictures from the deck of Liberte', The Schooner:

Though not in any particular order....

- Captain Chris, first-mate, Jan, and their lovely daughter were
our hosts.

- Not the 'Indian Summer' day we had hoped for, but not too bad
the temperature was a crisp 47 degree F when we boarded.

- No rain or fog, but a bit overcast. Gloves were provided to all!
Though the stout of heart may have declined...

- Everyone was invited to assist with the hoisting of the sails
and did!

- We learned the importance of a 'figure 8 coil' and how to pick it
up and keep the line tidy!

- We learned some fascinating details about the Schooner herself,
the US Naval Academy, the US NAVY and the harbor and
Chesapeake Bay.

- It was alos quite a site to behold the Woodwind leaving the
harbor and passing by with more then 40 Cape Dorians aboard.
In fact, we were so close we could see the whites of their eyes
and what I believed to be their coffee hoisted high in salute as
they passed us by!

- Well into the cruise, the faint sound of a Sea Shanty, lead by
Caryl P. Weiss - The Shantymam, drifted in the air over our
bow from their direction while...

- While those of us on the Liberte' were treated to a personal story
recounted by Dixon Hemphill. Dion had met Carl Alberg in
while in Sweden. It turns out that Dixon was a close personal
friend of Carl Alberg's nephew. When they met he was actually
introduced to him as 'Uncle Carl' during a stay with Carl's
nephew at Carl's sister's home.

- Those on board the Liberte' included: Richard and Carol Turner,
Lou and Marcia Ostendorff, Jack and Jo Chamberlin, Peter and J
Jane Cregger, Dixon and June Hemphill, Al, Sylvia and Andrew
Pentajan, Fred and Joyce Wise, John and Nancy Martin,
and Mike and I.

- As stated above, you'll notice the picture quality from a $7
disposable camera isn't the best, but the pictures certainly
capture the participation of all on board. The interaction with
Captain Chris and Jan was even more then we had anticipated
which really added to the overal experience. A good time was
certainly had by all. The coffee was hot and the Brunch was
delicious-- especially the scones!

- Though eventually, the sun came out and the temperature rose
into the mid 50?s. Though it dropped again just as we began
heading back in. as the sun had peaked back behind the
clouds and the wind came up too! A few who were reluctant to
to avail themselves of gloves and caps earlier came back and
asked if there were any of those gloves left? ;-) Of course there
were, along with a few skull caps and fleece ear bands as well!

On a personal note...
- This two day event was a fantastic way to bring to a close my 2
year terms as Commodore. More then 95 CDSOA, Inc. members
participated in one event or another over the course of two the
two days, with another dozen friends, vendors, speakers, and
entertainers rounding out our total participation to over a 100!!

- Seeing so many, having so much fun together was very
gratifying. Seeing more then 70 CDOSA, Inc. members sailing
together was phenomenal!!

A BIG THANKS TO EACH AND EVERYONE WHO ATTENDED. You made this 10th ANNUAL MEETING THE BIGGEST AND MOST SUCCESSFUL OF THEM ALL!

On a broader note...
- Thank you also to every CDSOA, Inc. member over the years
who diligently worked and participated throughout the first 10
years to mold CDSOA, Inc. into the active sailing community it is
today - A HUGE SUCCESS!

Finally,
- An invitation to every member and future members who will join
the CDSOA, Inc. ranks -- BE AS ACTIVE AS YOU CAN SO THE NEXT
10 YEARS will surpass the first!

Fair winds always to all! I look forward to seeing everyone
at the winter meetings in 2007!

Sharon Kairis, Commodore 2005 - 2006
