Who designed the CD25?

Post by Eric »

I've been scouting out CDs for about a year now and am certainly drawn to Carl Alberg's lines - throughout the CD line. I see from the CCDO boat specs page, in a note, that the CD 25 was designed by "CD Yachts," but originally build by the Allied Boat Company as the Greenwich 24. Later the 25 was succeeded by the 25D. If you shrink/enlarge a line drawing of the 25 and overlay it on other CDs (Typhoons, 22s, 26s) the design is un-mistakenly a Cape Dory with Alberg's signature cabin lines, full keel shape, etc... Did Alberg design for Allied? Can anyone provide a further explanation of where the 25 really came from?

The Greenwich 24, originally built by Allied, became the Cape Dory 25 when the molds were purchased by CD from Allied. It was designed by George Stadel, not Carl Alberg.

The CD 25D was an Alberg design, but not the CD25.
