seacocks in a cape dory 28 power boat

i broke off the threaded end of the tapered plug in the engine coolant supply seacock, anybody have any part number or manufacturer information about that seacock and how available a replacement part is?

They are made by Spartan. Don't have catalogue any more, but they're still in business. Good company. Try "Spartan Marine Hardware" on Google. They're now part of Robinhood Marine in Maine.

, Bill, thanks for the tip, can't tell you how many parts places told me that they weren't being made anymore, found the website and will call tomorrow am and see if I can get a replacement tapered plug. Thanks again.

Hi.
I'm not sure if they will sell only the tapered plug. I remember hearing something about needing to buy the entire unit to ensure a proper fit and avoid leaks. Good luck

Curiousity has the better of me. How does one break off the threaded end of a tapered plug?

One simply overtightens the tightening nut until it shears the nice soft brass threaded bolt end of the tapered plug right off. Quite simple and effortless and expensive.
