Last day at work yesterday....

Post by Mike Raehl »

Yesterday they had the Good Bye / Good Luck cake at work and I Fedexed the retirement papers last evening. So today was the first official day of my retirement, or should I say semi-retirement. So on the first day of my next life phase, rose early and drove to the yard to see how Roberta Jane III handled the winter under her shrink wrap cover. All is well. She looks just like I left her in November.

Completed installation of a new depth sounder transducer. Reinstalled my Micrologic Sportsman GPS, now that the end-of-week program bug is fixed. Installed a Speedseal on the water pump. Measured the stemhead for a bow sprit extension to attach a snatch block for the spinnaker tack line. Measured the forward hatch for possible future solar ventilator (see post below). Began project list for the next two months. Mentally scheduled launch day for May 15th.

And they thought I was going to sleep in this morning.....

Congratulations, you are off to a great start. Keep your life full. Many of us who had busy work lives now wonder how we ever had time for work.

Good luck on your retirement!! You are in such a marvelous place to spend time on the water!! I once owned an L-16 that was a former member of the Belmont fleet.

Mike,
Your are definitely my hero...as semi retirement is looming larger and larger on my radar screen. The key to a good retirement, so I'm told, is to keep busy. Our boats sure are enough to keep us busy a good amount of the time, one way or another.

Good luck to you and may you now sail the many voyages you could only dream about in the past!

Mike,
Come on in! The water's fine. (pun intended). Haven't looked back one day yet since I retired. I sent you a PM about Strictly Sail but didn't hear back. Hope we can connect this summer.

I'm doing some teaching part time but it's nice to set your own schedule. Hope retirement works out great for you. See you on the water.

Hi....
enjoy it too the fullest and keep busy and have fun with it all the time...

my father in law took up hunting and fishing and allot of boating until his health got to bad...
then he started just watching TV all the time...
he past away at 76, two years ago...
he was a good man at heart...

my step father, stayed working part time until he past away at 81 five years ago....
he would help ever one in need and he loved sailing.
he went around the world by sail and by air many times over..

stay busy when you retire, thats the best thing you can do for your self...
take care ever one...

Enjoy your freedom. Also in case you get the urge to leave your home cruising grounds be confident that your CD27 is a wonderful boat for the adventure. Ours has taken me and my wife on two adventures beyond our home waters of Lake Ontario - our first for a year long Maine to Florida Keys and Bahamas - our second out the St Lawrence River and around Nova Scotia and back through Long Island Sound.
Best Wishes.
