Depth Sounder

Post by John »

I have purchased a CD 28 powerboat which came with older instruments. The depth sounder does not repeat to the flybridge with any regularity or accuracy. The unit is manufactured by a company named Impulse, unit name is "Cricket". Does anyone have information about the depth sounder and or the transducer? I would like to install a different gauge without removing the thru hull transducer. Any help would be appreciated. John

Thru hulls are relatively standard. I did experience after removel of the old transducer the hole was slightly larger than its replacement; short for a sure Cape Dory fit. No problem-place handiwrap between flexible board and hull. Wedge plug against hole and hull as tight as possible. The better the fit- the eazier the cleanup. Fill hole inboard with potion of glass mat, glass particles and eposy resin. If hull is inclined greatly, additional layers maybe necessary. Remember resin will flow downhill-control setting time until dough stage, then sculpt it accordingly. Atfer resin has set, remove board fair hull and drill new hole to demensions of replacement transducer. This also works on wooden boats where wood particles and sawdust can be used to fill the hole. To increase the retention of the repair, especially for wooden hulls or thick glass hulls, drill varies retention holes in the wall of the hole. The resin will flow into these holes locking the plug securely to the hull. Go luck, happy repairs and remember to keep your stick on the ice!
