Aw darn, opportunity knocked but I had to pass. A local TY owner and list member contacted me the other week, letting me know his TY is for sale and I could have first dibbs. Its too soon for me to buy a TY or TY Senior or CD22 because I haven't had a chance to sail one yet or figure out if the 18' or 22' is for me. While I'm already in love with the look and features of the TY and TY SR, I still need to get out sailing on one to experience the handling and speed.
Dave offered to take me out sailing on his Ty Senior when the ice is off the lake, and Carol has offered to take me out sailing on her Typhoon, so I have the adventures lined up. I suppose by the time I get the demonstrations and make a decision on a Ty or TY Sr/CD22, and put out a WTB post, all I'll hear back are crickets chirping in the distance.....

Was someone else able to take advantage of the situation? There are plenty of folks out here ready to buy a Ty and realize we'd better take advantage when the opportunity presents itself!
If the boat is still available can you let the rest of us know so someone here can give her a new home?

I'm usually quick to take advantage of an opportunity but in this case I'm interested in two or three different CD models, and have never sailed on a Cape Dory. That makes it hard to make an informed decision if I haven't tried them out
I might like the wider beam of the CD 22 or Typhoon Sr, or I might like the narrower beam of the TY, I might like the extra foot of beam width in the Ty SR/CD22 cockpit. Will the Ty sail 'better' than the Ty Sr? Its all guesses and speculation at this point.
I've been spending some time in the archives reading about the Ty TY Sr, and CD 22. They all sound wonderful. I'd like to continue asking questions on here also.
I was looking for a small catboat when I stumbled on my Ty daysailer. It had been sitting shrink wrapped for a couple of years in the corner of a local boatyard (I must have walked past it 100 times without seeing it). The yard manager said no one had been around it for years, so I poked my head in the zippered "hatch", walked around the outside once, got the owner's name from the yard manager, and phoned the owner with an offer. I've never regretted it.
You can't go wrong with a Cape Dory. And........you might consider that the Ty you buy today doesn't have to be the one and only boat you'll ever own.
While you're doin' all that head scratchin.....may as well do it while you're sailing. I say, take the boat, you won't regret it.
