New Tiller Instalation

Post by John Hamilton »

My tiller snapped the end of last season. I have a new one that looks kind of like a CD25 tiller, but I would like to purchase an origional reproduction if available. My main question is how do you get the bronze fitting that connects to the rudder post off the broken tiller. Should I just drill the bronze studs out of the fitting and use SS bolts with a washer and lock nuts or is there a way to press these 2 bronze fittings out of the casting. Any input is appreciated, John

i would call spartan and ask them how it is attached. those may be threaded rods ground flush. if so use an easy-out as a press would destroy the fitting. if you don't mind my asking, how did you snap your tiller? mine is robust and would seem indestructible on the cd 26. thanks.

John,

I can't imagine how the thing could have broken less than a defective casting originally! Spartan Marine which was Andy Vavolotis' brother's operation is now part of Robinhood and I would certainly contact them about the occurance and repair guidelines. They are listed on the CCDO board under sources of parts. The tillers were produced to my knowlege at the factory along with the rest of the wooden components. The sources of the wood Robinhood could probably give you.
