I am getting water oozing from a pinprick hole that appeared through the just painted bottom paint. The boat has been on stands over the winter. The spot is 18 in. forward of the rudder post and 3 in. above the bottom of the keel. It weeps a drop at the rate of about a drop an hour and has been doing this for four days.
The hull was damaged superficially two years ago and repaired. There was no seepage two years ago. In other words, if there is a cause and effect connection between the oozing and the earlier damage why would it show up two years later? I live in Conn., could two years of freezing and thawing have created a fissure somewhere in the skin?
I would appreciate any insight and suggestions about what to do.

The story sounded familiar....
Take a look at earlier posting of Andrew Shyka (3/16/97) and the reply to his posting by Jerry Hammernik (3/16/97).

Several years ago I faced the same situation in what sounds like the same location.Enest G. Lots of factors contributed to the problem:
1. A void in the manufacturing process.
2. Before I purchased her, the boat had what was thought to be a superficial grounding.
3. She didn't get pulled as scheduled by the marina and got stuck in unprecedented ice along with 20 other boats in the mid Chesapeake Bay area.
Took me two years to fully understand the whys and wherefores and a very major nasty repair job to finally complete the fix. Would be glad to share what I did but think it's too long to post on the bulletin board. I could write a book....but will try to draft up something more reasonable.
