question on schaefer furling on a Typhoon

Post by MikeG »

I have a 77 Typhoon with a Schaefer furler. It is a free flying one. There is a tang on the mast that I believe the top swivel of the furler attaches to. If I attach the furler to the tang the furler is 14 inches short to attach to the bow fitting. If I connect it this way I do not use the jib halyard. Or I connect the jib halyard to the top swivel and hoist it that way? The boat is new to me and came with the furler and hank on sails.

I am puzzled. Mike

My last boat, a CD25, had a Schaefer free flying jib furler. It was designed to hoist just like any hank on headsail. The main thing
I remember was having to keep the halyard tight as a guitar string when sailing.

Good luck,

Bruce
