Mavis Beacon

Post by Ed Roberts »

All the Cape Dory aficionados who appreciate Walt Bilofsky’s efforts in their behalf will be interested to know that today’s (12/31/98) New York Times, in the weekly Circuits section, has a big article on the software program, Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. One small excerpt from the story follows:

“Mavis was brought to life almost ten years ago, in initially rudimentary form,by Les Crane, Walt Bilofsky and Joe Abrams for their Software company, Software Toolworks, then located in Sherman Oaks, California...”

Funny, read the Times & the article - totally failed to make the connection. Thanks for pointing it out!

Walt:

I bought a copy of Mavis Beacon for my company - to teach a receptionist how to type - and had great results. Our only question, of course, was "is that really a picture of Mavis on the box?"

As long as we have Walt basking in memories, let's add The Miracle Piano Teaching System which was also developed by Walt, et al, at The Software Toolworks around 1990
