Is the CD 25 a trailerable bluewater cruiser?

I would like to purchase an economical bluewater sailboat that could
be trailered. Does the Cape Dory 25 qualify as a candidate?
Any advice/direction is greatly appreciated.

Hi Dan..

I can't offer any personal experience, as I'm a CD wannabe myself. Practical Sailor did a very nice review of the CD-25D as being suited for offshore work. They weren't as generous with the lighter CD-25.

While it's possible to take just about any sailboat across the ocean with the proper preparations, (WW Potter 15's have made crossings, you need to consider the safety factors and level of discomfort you wish to endure.

The CD-25D has a better interior layout then the CD-25 for long distance cruising, and more weight and sail as well.

Yes my CD 25 (not the 25D) has been to the Bahamas. not by me but by the original owner. I thinjk you could do it is just about anything that floats. The question is are you capable to do it in just about anything that floats and if not where would you feel comfortable. I am selling my CD 25 and I moved up to a Baba 30. I now feel comfortable. In my CD I made some "off shore" trips but none that
required more than one night at sea. It's not the yacht it's the crew...

Dan
I know of two 25's that have sailed from Florida to the Bahamas and across the Sea of Cortez. It just requires some plannig and prudent seamanship.
