Dear CD Owners,
I'm slowly looking for my next step-up in a crusing sloop and the CD26 has attracted my attention. I admire the full keel Alberg design, Tiller, outboard motor well, standing headroom, teak and bronze, and a proven design. Reading the spec page, I see under 100 were built so, finding one in bristol condition may be difficult. I wish to own a sailboat which still can be trailered, even if it's just twice a year to new cruising ground. I'm in the midwest and it's primary usage would be the great lakes (Superior) and large Minnesota bodies.
Can owners on the list provide me with their impressions or experiences with the CD26? Does anyone have original product/sales lit on this boat? I have seen one here in Minnesota yet it was sold very quickly. I am presently sailing a Montgomery 17. Other boats which catch my eye are the NorSea 27, Dana 24, and Flicka 20.
Thank you for the group's wisdom!
Sincerely,
Michael Bowden

Re: CD26 Curiosity
IMHO one of the neatest features of the CD26 is the outboard well on a somewhat larger boat. Hulls are made to keep the water out. Holes in hulls below the waterline compromise that primary goal, especially holes filled with a stick that goes round and round. Plus repowering is a snap, ignoring financial considerations. If it only had a self-tending jib it might be the perfect lazy man's boat.

Re: CD26 Curiosity
We may have bought the boat you were looking at in Minnesota. We knew of the boat and the owners. When it was put up for sale, we had it surveyed and then paid the full asking price. She had spent the last several years on Lake Pepin, we hope to put her on the St. Croix this spring. We were watching for Cape Dorys for sale in Minnesota and you're right, there aren't many. The 26 is a nice size for a couple or a couple with small children. I think any more than that would be a bit of a crowd. Ours has the usual gel coat cracks but is otherwise in fine condition. Good luck on finding your own.
