Larry,
Yesterday I mentioned the availability of an instantaneous gas water heater that might be just what you want for a foot pumped system. Found some additional information in the Defender catalog:
Aquastar Instantaneous Gas Water Heater
Never runs out of hot water. Copper and brass construction, safety thermocouple, tankless flash heater, great for boats, cabins, RVs. Flow depending on inlet temperature, is from 1 GPM (65 degree rise) to 2 GPM (30 degree rise). 38,700 BTU input, 30,000 BTU output. Optional 3" vent. 18.5 X 8.4 X 7". Minimum flow 3/4 GPM. 15 psi(150 psi max.). AGA listed. LP gas only! 10 year warrabty. FOB VT. Model 38 List $441, Defender net = $329.95
Larry, it's a litle expensive, does not utilize engine waste heat, but it might be easier to install if you are already equipped with LP gas (yesterday I said CNG). I'm not sure if it would work with a foot pumped system. 1 GPM might be some fancy footwork!
After checking all the options, I'm now leaning towards the Atlantic T6E heater to be installed in the starboard lazzerette. It's even smaller than the Seaward 600 and looks as if it is made better. I sent Jerry Laudermilk the diagram of the engine hook up for a Universal 18, but don't know if it would help you if you decide to go with a heat exchanger equipped normal installation. If you want it, give me your Fax number and I'll send it right out.
One way or the other, Hanalei WILL have hot water this summer!
