Include a photo or graphic in a message posting....how to...

Post by Cathy Monaghan »

Follow the instructions found in the "Need help starting?" section of this web site or....

1. Upload your digital photo to your web site or to a photo service's web site (<a href="http://www.photobucket.com/">Photobucket.com</a>, <a href="http://www.photoworks.com/">Photoworks.com</a> and <a href="http://www.shutterfly.com">Shutterfly.com</a> are a few examples of photo services). May I suggest trying Photobucket.com? It seems to be the easiest to use.

2. Copy/paste the URL (see **NOTE below regarding URLs) of the photo into the body of the message that you are composing. It will look something like this (minus the word "Code"):

Code: Select all

http://www.yourisp.com/yourfolder/yourphoto.jpg
3. Using your mouse, highlight the URL that you just pasted into the message.

4. Once the URL has been highlighted, Click on the "Img" button which is located in the row of buttons immediately above the area where you are composing your message.

5. After you've clicked on the "Img" button, the URL of your photo will look something like this (minus the word "Code"):

Code: Select all

[img]http://www.yourisp.com/yourfolder/yourphoto.jpg[/img]
The BBCode [Img] tags will surround the URL.

That's all there is to it providing that your photo is 600 pixels wide or less.

Please note that the BBCode [Img] tag does not do anything to restrict the size of the image. If you want to include a photo which is larger than 600 pixels wide, please use the HTML Img tag instead. Here's the HTML code:

HTML Unrestricted size (minus the word "Code"):

Code: Select all

<img src="http://www.yourisp.com/yourfolder/yourphoto.jpg">
HTML Restricted size (minus the word "Code"):

Code: Select all

<img width="600" src="http://www.yourisp.com/yourfolder/yourphoto.jpg">
**NOTE: The URL of a photo or graphic will end with one of the following extensions: .jpg, .gif or .png. If your URL doesn't end with one of those extensions, then it is NOT a photo URL and is a link URL instead. If that's the case you must treat it as a link and use the "URL" button rather than the "Img" button. If you use a photo service, follow the instructions provided by the photo service to SHARE your photo. The most common method of sharing photos is via e-mail. So share the photo with yourself and have it e-mailed to your e-mail address. The URL provided in the e-mail that you receive from the photo service is the one that you use.

You'll find additional help....
