Welcome to the Cape Dory Board--PLEASE READ!

Post by Cathy Monaghan »

Well, it took us alot longer than we had anticipated to migrate the board from the old format to the new, but with the hard work and perseverance of your web team it is finally here.

All of the messages from the original board are here and that includes the archives. If you scroll to the bottom of the "Cape Dorys" Forum you'll see:

Goto page 1, 2, 3 ... 291, 292, 293 Next

You can click on any of those page numbers at the bottom of the board, on Previous or Next to navigate through the board but using "Search", located in the toolbar near the top of the page will get you there quicker.

Be sure to click on the "<a href="http://capedory.org/board/whaaa.html"><b>Need help starting?</b></a>" link for basic instructions in the use of this board. You'll find more detailed help in the <a href="http://capedory.org/board/userguide.html"><b>Users Guide</b></a>.

Any visitor to the board can read messages. You can do that right now. But in order to reply, post, and search, you'll have to register as a message board user. Registration is absolutely FREE of charge.

Sooner or later you may choose to become a registered user. That will give you other optional features - automatically displaying your name and boat with your posts, letting you edit your posts, delete them, your e-mail address is protected from spammers, and a lot more.
  • Regarding registration and your e-mail address: the board's software protects it from spammers. So rather than displaying your e-mail address within a posted message, those that want to contact you have the option of clicking on either the 'email' or 'pm' buttons which appear below each posted message. If they choose the 'email' button they can send you a message via a form. If they choose the 'pm' button you'll get a 'private message' which you'll access via the message board or from a link you'll receive via e-mail. Either way they'll never see your e-mail address unless you send them a reply. Non-registered users cannot send you an 'email' or a 'pm' via the board. So in order to maintain this added security and your privacy, please NEVER do as I have done in this message and include your e-mail address within the text of a message or within your 'signature'. If someone wants to contact you they should use one of the buttons mentioned above.
If you want to become a registered user, <a href="http://www.phpbb.com/support/tutorials/ ... ter">click on this tutorial</b></a> to learn how, then register and take advantage of the board's features, you'll have to provide your email address, but we won't use it for anything off the board and it's protected from robots and spammers. It's up to you.

When you register you'll create a profile which you can edit at any time using "<a href="http://www.phpbb.com/support/tutorials/ ... e"><b>Your Settings</b></a>" located in the toolbar near the top of the board.

If you registered as a user of the board BEFORE February 5th, 2005, then you registered on our TEST board. And if that's the case you may have to delete the Cookie from "capedory.org" on your computer before you can register and login to this board.

After you've completed the registration process, don't forget to login.

If you have any questions regarding how to use the board, please post them in the "<a href="http://capedory.org/board/viewforum.php?f=2"><b>About this Board</b></a>" forum or send an e-mail to webmaster@capedory.org and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

In case anybody hasn't noticed and still needs help, in addition to "<a href="http://www.capedory.org/board/whaaa.html">"Need help starting?"</a>" and the "<a href="http://www.capedory.org/board/userguide.html">Users Guide</a>", you'll find some instructions regarding the different board <a href="http://www.capedory.org/board/viewtopic ... uts</b></a> (choose the view you like), <a href="http://www.capedory.org/board/viewtopic ... <b>viewing recent messages</b></a>, the use of <a href="http://www.capedory.org/board/viewtopic ... ars</b></a>, and how to include <a href="http://www.capedory.org/board/viewtopic ... ><b>photos or graphics</b></a> within your posts in the "<a href="http://www.capedory.org/board/viewforum.php?f=2">About this Board</a>" forum. They are the first few "Sticky" messages in the forum.

If you want to practice using the board before actually posting a question or comment, please use the <a href="http://www.capedory.org/board/viewforum ... box</b></a> forum.

If you want to sell your Cape Dory or some of its gear, or you're looking to buy, please use the <a href="http://www.capedory.org/board/viewforum ... b>Buy/Sell CD Boats and Gear</b></a> forum.

If after reading the above-mentioned help files you're still having difficulties, send an e-mail to: <a href="mailto:webmaster@capedory.org?Subject=CD Board"><b>webmaster@capedory.org</b></a>.

Thanks,
Cathy
