It is a device to adjust the luff of the main without disturbing the halyard, invented by a racer Bruce Cunningham, and used mostly by Racers, It is merely a small block and tackle that hooks into a cringle about a foot up the luff of the main and to the bass of the mast, This allows multiple changes of tension needed in round the bouys racing.
Since you do not have a halyard winch for the main, it would be a plus on your Typhoon, but only if you are concerned with sailing to the optimum.
I have one on my Sea Sprite 23 and use it a lot, and do not race.On your Typhoon a devise to tension down the sliding gooseneck would do the same thing as a Cunningham. If you still have the old roll up reefing system like I had on my Typhoon then you can only use a hook up to the goose neck. What ever you use, a system to harden down the luff of the main is desireable for good performance. Good Luck Ron Brassord LHP FL>
