Re: north east club
Due to circumstances beyond my control, a planned summer meet in Boston didn't happen. But there was enough interest! I'd like to see a New England CD club, for sure!

Our 330 is at Robinhood in Maine (we are in upstate NY). Keep us informed if anything gets going.steve files wrote: I'm intererested in joining or organizing a new england cape dory association or connecting with a larger cape dory association for info and possible get togethers, etc.

Re: north east club
Yes, let's organize a northeast CD association! If we could, I would like it to be a regional chapter of the California organization -which has done so much to add to my enjoyment of Cape Dory ownership.
It would be my pleasure to assist this endeavor in any way I can.

We would be very interested in forming a CD club in this area. We sail out of Cotuit on Cape Cod, but we store our boat at Robinhood Marine in Maine.
Let us know what we can do to encourage this along.

Re: north east club
We sail out of Christmas Cove (Maine) and have seen dozens of Cape Dorys this summer, including a 28 power yacht moored next to us at Christmas Cove, which is very close to Robinhood Cove, by the way.
So there are lots of potential members.
I think the best part would be to have our own burgee!
And a get-together would be fun, too.

Count me in, too. Based in Cape Porpoise, ME. How about considering a sail-along on the Maine coast, as many of you store your boats at Robinhood?steve files wrote: I'm intererested in joining or organizing a new england cape dory association or connecting with a larger cape dory association for info and possible get togethers, etc.

Count us in! Kristen and I sail Remedy (CD27 #37) out of Bristol harbor on Narragansett Bay; we would love to share crew and advice. I have had to scrap six sailing days in the past two months for lack of crew.
p.s. Bristol Marine, home of another Good Old Boat, has a couple of CDs for sale - including a CD30 at a ridiculous price.

Re: north east club
Steve - This is a great idea. I recently purchased a CD330 which shall spend her springs and falls on the Hudson River in New York. She will be summering in Onset on Cape Cod. We would be very interested in hearing about any possible get together in New England.
Cathy Monaghan had made some preliminary inquires for an association several months ago. I would recommend you contact her for further details:

CD330 "Innisfail"
"Innisfail" is Gaelic for a little bit of heaven on earth, which most CD owners would agree is applicable.

Re: north east club
Steve,
I'm interested in joining a New England Cape Dory Association for info and possible get togethers, etc. Due to current
work demands, I have very little free time, but, would be willing to devote some time in an assist roll.
Due to the volume of info through their web site, I think, with their permission, we could affiliate w/ the CCDO.
My boat, CD30K-1977, is currently located in New London, CT.
As a testimony to the designer, I would like to suggest the 'Association' membership be open to owners of all C. Alberg
designed boats.
Note: See other interest in "NEED EAST COAST ASSOCIATION" and follow-ups.

Some comments on starting a Cape Dory group
Steve -steve files wrote: I'm intererested in joining or organizing a new england cape dory association or connecting with a larger cape dory association for info and possible get togethers, etc.
I'm glad to see you and so many others interested in forming a regional group. Any help we can offer through this web site, you're more than welcome to.
The California Cape Dory Owners Assn. started five years ago at a chance meeting between myself and Mike Fahy in Benicia Marina. Mike knew another CD owner, Sandy Smith, and the three of us got together for a float-in. Mike spent the next year rounding up more CD owners, we scheduled another rendezvous, put notices in the local boating publications, and the group just grew.
It really doesn't take much to do a group if you don't care about being real structured. The only thing that takes much work is keeping a mailing list and doing mailings - which is important if you're going to have get-togethers - and one person who is good with computers can do that. It is also important to get notices of events out to publications several months in advance, as that is the best way (outside this message board) to reach Cape Dory owners.
My suggestion would be to just go ahead and schedule an event. You could do a float-in/drive-in event next spring, or, since y'all up there are afflicted with winters, possibly do a group visit to Robinhood while your boats are out of the water. At the event you can hold an organizational meeting and see what people want to do as far as a group is concerned.
Good luck. Once you get started, I know a real reasonable place to get burgees made.

Steve,
Count me in. Just took my boat to FL down the ICW. But will be back in the Spring. I think a float in at Robinhood would be great, I'M down that way quite often in the summer.
Keep me posted
