Basic Intrepid 9 Meter information

Post by Tom Quinby »

I am considering the purchace of an Intrepid 9M built by CD, a fin keeled cruising sloop. I am lacking some basic information on this rare vessel. Does anyone have some information regarding her construction integrity vs. the traditional CD line. Has anyone sailed one? I have heard that they are real dogs to sail. May this be a bad rumor? I am surprised that she is light for her length and for 29 feet she doesn't carry much fuel or water......is there any experience out there? Does any one know of any publications for reference.

Anything is appreciated..... Thank you from S. Portland, Maine

The boat is basically a Grampion 30. CD bought the hulls from Grampion and finished them in Taunton. A relatively unsuccesful venture for CD. There are a lot more Grampion 30s around then CD Intrepids

I think the rumor is bad. The boat loves to sail with the rail in the water. A friend of mine owned one (the CD version) for about three years and I sailed it on the Hudson River three or four times. It is, in fact, a lot more fun to sail than our CD 330, but basically worthless as a cruiser. If you have a copy of Mautch's (I think that's how you spell it) Guide to Sailboats, the Grampion 30 appears in Volume I.
