What's the reason for wanting to convert to a cutter rig?
It's not just rigging an inner stay, a true cutter would have the mast step moved back as well to maintain balance. That sounds like a big job.

You are correct. That is why Cape Dorys are not true cutters. They are, infact, double headsail rigs because the balance is obtained by adding a bow sprit to move the forestay forward, not by moving the mast aft.Neil Gordon wrote: What's the reason for wanting to convert to a cutter rig?
