What measurement does one use to determine proper length for a whisker pole? J or LP?
Thanks

Wiskerpole lenght

Re: Wiskerpole Length
I'm also considering a wisker pole, probably for next season. Initial research shows those of various lengths and diameters or of various adjustable sizes. I'm on a CD32.
How do you determine the correct size/length for a wisker pole? Those listed in Boats/US and West are pretty pricey. What are the alternatives?

Re: Wiskerpole Length
One came with my 25D. It is just (inches) longer than what I think is the LP measurement (mast to the headstay). Mine is homemade except the end fittings and is 3" (or so OD alulimun {sp}) and after owning a twist lock on my previous boat, I like it (the homemade one) much better. I couldn't not force myself to pay WM/BoatUS prices for a pole.

Re: Wiskerpole Length
Practical Sailor ran a detailed article on whisker poles some months ago. If you can't find a copy I'd be glad to xerox the article and mail it to you.

Re: Wiskerpole lenght
unless you are racing, you can have any length you want. mine is a telescoping forespar that is as long as the "J" measurement(i think this is max racing length). it winds up being a bit too long for the working jib. the only problem i've had with it is the platic clam cleat wore out and needed replacing. as far as price, it came with the boat, and i'm not sure i could stand to spend as much on it as they want and might consider a home-built if i had to replace it.
Re: Wiskerpole lenght
WHile I am on this subject, does anyone know where to find a whiskerpole eye (mast fitting) that fits the radius of the forward end of the mast?????
Thanks
