Given that information, the HIN that you provided (CPOK0060M81) cannot be for the boat with a builder plate that is 1771. One of the two are wrong.

The Typhoon Weekender would have a D as the 4th digit. This HIN is for a Typhoon Daysailer Model K, that is Hull #0060, not Model D #1771. The Typhoon Model Ks are the Daysailer version w a small cuddy and no portholes. They have the same hull as the Weekender but there are notable differences in the cuddy (no portholes or v berth) and cockpit (not self draining being the most notable).

I used to own the following Typhoons:
  • CPDD1324M77G (Ty Weekender, Model D, Hull 1324, built in 1977)
  • CPDD1156V76C (Ty Weekender, Model D, Hull 1156, built in 1976)
  • CPDK004M79D (Ty Daysailer, Model K w cuddy, Hull 0004, built in 1979)
  • CPDD0057M70? (Weekender, Model D, Hull 57, built in 1970). This HIN may be incorrect.
Using these as a reference, 1771 is newer than any of these Model Ds.

Again, pictures would really help solve this mystery.

Awesome!! Edits made to my first post.

That narrowed the gap a bit on unaccounted boats in that timeframe.

Happy Sails.

Matt, I apologise for the late reply. I know that my ty weekender is most likely a 1981 with an incorrect VIN on my title and on the stern. I thought someone might recognize that VIN as theirs or someone else's. I once found a CD member's boat listed on this site with the hull #1772, it was a 1981. Of course other identifying numbers on the boat indicate it is a 1981. Thanks for your previous response. Tom

The initial post has been updated to add details that I noticed in the Typhoon Nationals race results and as a result of some PMs. If I got anything wrong, please let me know.

Fifth time is a charm !!

About a month ago I purchased Lorelei, a '81 Typhoon Daysailer (K) Hull #84 out of Chestertown MD. She will be kept in Urbanna VA.

As many know, I really like Cape Dory boats - I have owned 4 Tys in the past, and now this Ty will be in my fleet along with a CD-10 and CD-36.

While she is in very respectable shape, I will eventually paint the hull (keeping it Green) as well as get the woodwork up to snuff.

Regardless of when that all happens I hope to race her in the next Nationals barring any surprises.
