Locking the OB

Post by Jim Davis »

On my wifes Ty I ran 3/16 7x19 cable through the cleat and weave it through the motor mount and lock both ends to the large hole on the engine mount just above the thumbscrews. Assuming there is a decent backing plate under the cleat you shouldn't have any trouble. Granted all we can hope for is keeping honest people honest and making it too much a PITA for the more dedicated.

Your Ty is absolutely gorgeous and looking at it brought back a flood of wonderful memories to me. Our first boat, back in 1983 was a Typhoon and we sailed her in the crystal waters of Honolulu, often with 6 people aboard. We were novice sailors and she took care of us, made us look good even when we hadn't a clue what we were doing, was the envy of all our friends and taught us to love sailing AND Cape Dorys. A love of both that has endured to this day.
I hope your hours in wind will be the best you will ever know.
Congratulations and fair winds!!
