I heard some talk of designing a Wankel for use in a sailboat. The power to weight ratio is a contributing factor to encourage it's developement.
Because of the use of aluminum in it's construction, it only weighs a fraction of it's contempory Diesel designs. It runs much more smoothly than standard, present day, in-line engines now in use.
If they get the bugs worked out, which I think that they are now doing, the future looks bright for the rotary engine in the marine field.
