Anybody run Halyards aft to cockpit on CD27??
Acquiring a new (to me!) CD27 and I'm thinking of running the M&J halyards aft to the cockpit for easier singlehanded sail handling.
Has anyone with a CD27 done this - I'm curious in terms of the coachroof ability to handle blocks and clutches, jam cleats, etc.
If anyone's done this with a CD27, have interior backing blocks been the thing to do?
Thanks - !

The main & jeneker halyards run aft on my CD25 and the blocks and clutches are backed with plywood.

I have sailed my former CD27 using an Autohelm 1000 to allow me to go forwardAcquiring a new (to me!) CD27 and I'm thinking of running the M&J halyards aft to the cockpit for easier singlehanded sail handling.

and raise and lower the sails. I currently own a CD 27 set up as you have asked about , although I did not set it up myself. Either way is adequite, although a set of of lazy jacks completes the scenario.

I sail LIQUIDITY without lines running aft. I think you get to know your boat better when you go on deck, and when the time comes, you'll be more comfy up there in an emergency.
I singlehand without the autopilot. Just head the boat into the wind, cut the throttle, walk forward and raise the main as the boat slows. Momentum keeps her into the wind just fine. Returning is actually easier... just let go of the tiller and walk forward as the boat turns herself into the wind and the sail luffs. She'll sit quite nicely then while you furl the main.
Sail her for a while before you start playing with the hardware.

Re: Anybody run Halyards aft to cockpit on CD27??
Yves,
A boat is certainly a personal thing, especially how the boat is rigged and sailed. On our 25D I ran the main and jib halyards down the mast to turning blocks, then aft to winches and cleats. I removed the winches from the mast and mounted them on teak pads on the cabin top. Aft of the winches I mounted bronze cleats. The winches and cleats are both backed with bedded teak plywood backing plates with large washers on the bolts. I really like this system, as I can remain in the cockpit and handle both sails. As I've said before this is not the only way, only the way which works for me. I have photos of the setup which I can e-mail to you if you like.
Best Wished,
Lee

I've sailed my CD25 for a season so far. I like the simplicity of your approach. Can I ask you how you hoist and drop the jib and genny? I'm still learning.
Thanks,
Bill

The genoa is on a furler, so that part's easy from the cockpit.
