Cape Dory 27
I bought a used 1978 27 footer after owning a Typhoon for 18 years. The 27 was out of the water for 4 years and the engine, a Yanmar YSB 8, is in very good shape. Does anyone know how to wire the cooling water idiot light from the sender to the panel? Any info will be of great help, so my poor wife can stop looking over the transom to see if the cooling water is coming out.

Re: Cape Dory 27
I believe that that is explained in the engine's shoip manual, which you probably want to purchase from a Yanmar parts supplier. It has lots more information than the little owners manual. BTW, we have a YSM 8 in our 1980 CD 27. It wonderfully reliable, but make sure you don't run it in neutral when the boat is heeled down, or shortly after it's been heeled down. The lube oil laps up to where in can be sucked in as fuel, and the engine will run away. It scares you the first time it happens!

Hi Bob I just bought a Cape Dory 27 (77) I got a little rought up in Hurricane Fran. I need to replace most of the railing and life lines as well as rub rail and top rail. I know very little about this boat. Any information you could supply would be most helpful. Thanks and keep in touch. Bill-sorry to hear about your boat getting beat up. I have been a loyal CD owner for years and believe me, they are tough boats. E-Mail me back your snail mail address...I'll make a copy of the Cape Dory owner's manual which has a lot of valuable info in it. As far as getting the teak rails, etc., fixed, your best bet would be to get a local carpenter who is more of an artisan rather than a construction type guy. A local yard can fix it but they tend to get rather pricey. Also, the founder of Cape Dory Yachts, Andy Vavolotis, is running Spartan Marine in Robinhood, Maine. Spartan is the company that makes (made) all of the brass hardware, etc. for Cape Dory. Ask for a copy of their catalog by calling 1-800-325-3287. Also, call Rig-Rite at 401-739-1140 in Warwick, R.I. They can also help you out.Bill Depuydt wrote:Hi Bob I just bought a Cape Dory 27 (77) I got a little rought up in Hurricane Fran. If your willing to put some time and energy, there are some great deal on any kind of boat. I got my CD for $6000 and figure
that to get into great shape should take about $3000-$4000. I'll keep you in touch as we progress along. Thanks and have a Happy Holidays
