OJ's surgery went well!

Post by Ed Haley »

Oswego John is stable and resting comfortably at Upstate Medical Hospital in Syracuse. The surgery went well and I'm sure he has received and appreciated all the well wishes from his friends on the CD Board.

John's son Mike sends his gratitude for all your thoughts and prayers.

If any CDSOA member wants to send OJ a card please send them to his home. You have his address in the CDSOA Directory. I hesitate to put his address on the board without his permission.

For those who might also be sailing today, tomorrow or whenever, take a quiet moment before casting off for OJ and his speedy and full recovery.

Glad to here that things are on the right track(tack?). Don't know John but have read many of his posts. You seem to get to know people just through osmosis on the board. Best wishes for a complete & swift recovery. As the father of three sons I really appreciate the help that a son can be. I'm sure you are a real blessing to your father Mike.

oswegojohns/recovery

Post by Oswego John »

Dad says hey to all of you and for me to thank all of you for your words of encouragement/get well quick thoughts. He is really surprising the docs,he is far ahead of them in recovery time. Seems that they have a time table for every thing and he is 18 to 26 hrs ahead of their time charts. ICU is where he is right now, in about 12 to24 hrs they will put him up for duration in another room. When that happens I will give his address, rm # and which hospital, there are 4 of them all connected by tunnels. there is no damage from attack, he is strong and well on his way to retuning to HOME PORT ! And that will do me and the dog just fine. I miss him! So Long For Now. I Will Keep You All Posted / ED, THANKS TO YOU AND MIKE R. MIKES BEEN ALL OVER THE PLACE THANK YOU!!

OJ and Mike

Post by Andy Denmark »

Hi Mike,

Just returned to discover this distressing thread but glad to hear it's working out well. Mike, please relay my thoughts and prayers to John and wish him a speedy recovery. He has many friends here who appreciate and care for him although we've never met him.

And you are doing yeomans duty caring for him. As my Dad would say, "good on ya' boy."

Just got home from hospital, he is doing well as can be. He thanks all of you for your thoughts, prayers and get well wishes. He is getting better and is still ahead of their time table. The hospitals name is University Hospital.. Cardiopulmonary Intensive Care Unit. #750 East Adams Street, Syracuse, New York (13210) Any mail sent there, to him, it will get to him, it will be forwarded to him. Like I said before,he is not the type to want for his barnacles to be put onto some elses hull. So its kind of hard for him to be in this harbor, it isnt his, and theres no chart for him to navigate with, so it is with me as well. It will work out, and maybe this new coarse we have at our 12 will be the cruise we all dreamed about as kids, lost as we got older and then forgot about because life got in our way. I hope we all get our dreams back, the way we remember them, and when we need them! So.... "God give us men! A time like this demands, Strong minds, great hearts, true faith, and ready hands.Tall men, sun crowned, who live above the fog" (Josiah Gilbert Holland). Semper Fidelis.

Mike,

Sorry we were out of email range, but thanks VERY much for staying in touch and keeping us updated by phone.

Its really good to have positive news, on OJ's progress.

Judy was in tears when she first heard the news and as the successful operation progressed and we heard OJ was out of the woods, her tears turned to smiles.

Tell Dad he's made quite an impression on my woman and I'll have to sea to him, when he's mended  .

Mike,
I was out of town, and didn't learn about your father's condition until this AM. I hope he is resting comfortably and will soon be back on--this--board offering his knowledge & wisdom.

Please, tell him that he is missed by friends & shipmates that have never met him as well as those who have!

oswegojohns/coming home

Post by Oswego John »

Greetings to all. Good news this night, I have just returned home from the hospital. Dad will be coming home tomorrow, the 12th. of October. The doctors say he is ready, ready to leave there to join us once again. He is looking forward to getting on line with friends who know that a " line " is not a bad grouping of words used to pick up young ladies in some bucket of blood down by the wharf. It will be good for me and the dog to have him under this roof again, its been way to long. Once again, I thank all of you for your thoughts of concern, prayers and get well wishes. I always knew my dad, my best friend, was a stand up kind of man, but when I read the replies you fine people wrote when you were given the news of his being ill, it made me so very proud of him, and to be able to call him MY DAD and MY BEST FRIEND!! Well, thats like Christmas every day, " Priceless " Thank you all once again. Your friend, MIKE.....................SEMPER FIDELIS.

John:

OJ, it is so uplifting to hear that you're at home again. As for navigating a course - take it easy, be kind to yourself and let your wonderful family dote on you for awhile.

I feel thankful that God has blessed us all.
