I am looking at Cape Dory 28, hull #36. This is a 1975 hull and has a different berth arrangement than I am used to. There is a slide out double with storage over (and under) and a single (pilot berth?) above the three storage drawers. On starboard there is a single berth, but no back cushions (or arrangements for them). Is this a familiar configuration (I see no options in my literature) or did a previous owner do some customizing? This boat also has a slide out sink over the head (port) with a large hanging locker to starboard instead of the vanity indicated in my 1980 vintage literature. Was this an experiment or what? Any information would be welcome. I am SERIOUSLY interested in this boat (have been lusting after a Cape Dory for 20 years!) and want some reassurance here!

I have a CD 28 hull # 188. I also have a slide out double on the port side and a single to starboard. The same storage drawer setup. The double has a back cushion which serves as a filler when you pull out the berth. I also have the same head arrangement opposite a hanging locker on the starboard side. It seems as if Cape Dory made several different versions over the years. Like you I was interested in a CD for years, finally getting one last year. If the boat is in good condition, have it surveyed, go for it. Regardless of whichever interior layout, they are great sailing boats. You won't regret it.

LIQUIDITY is a 1977 CD28.
We have a slide out double berth to port and a single to stbd. The back cushion from the stbd side fills in the pulled out double. There's storage under and behind both port and stbd sides, but no drawers.
The head arrangement is the same as yours, port side head with slide out sink; stbd side hanging locker.
I agree with the other comment... minor differences inside don't matter. It's a great boat!
