I'm putting the boat (#777 - "Dawntreader") in the sea on Tuesday. Is there some launching ritual or celebratory event that is appropriate?

Make sure that there is no water coming in anywhere, then put the sails up and go play...I don't think you will be disappointed. I will not bore you with the routine safety stuff, i.e. PFDs, man overboard recovery drill, etc. in the assumption that you know this already-for detail, read Glenan's Manual of Sailing, a great book.I'm putting the boat (#777 - "Dawntreader") in the sea on Tuesday. Sailing is the ritual, so enjoy.

Specific steps of ritual and preparation for celebration are in inverse proportion to length of time you have been preparing for this event. My crew (read 'wife') says that if you check the mast head for all rigging etc properly placed there before stepping mast that is ritual enough! (Could she have some aversion to unstepping the mast to add missing windvane, topping lift etc? Perish the thought.)
May you enjoy steady winds and warm sunshine!
