I have a friend with a CD28 who is looking for information on a side mount boarding ladder. Which ones are good and should he use a deck mounted ladder or a topside(hull) mounted ladder? Anyone recomend a quality ladder?

Re: Info On side mount boarding ladders
There's a firm in Mystic Ct that makes a folding ladder designed to be mounted at the lifelines. The model I saw at a boat show was of extremely high quality - built from stanchion-grade pipe, not tubing. Once released, sleeves fall over the hinges so it's completely rigid when extended - and that's quite important for a ladder. It's a small firm, so modifications are possible, I suppose. Price - in the $600-700 range.
Definitely on my list of things to get!

Re: Info On side mount boarding ladders
Last year I bought the West Marine swim ladder. It mounts to the deck, just inside the toe rail, and arches up and over the rail, and unfolds perfectly to the water or dinghy. The toughest part is drilling the deck. (Is there a more fatal feeling in all the world than drilling the fiberglass?) I used the biggest stainless fender washers that would fit, sealed the mounting brackets w/ 3M 5200. When not in use, it folds and stores neatly in the cockpit locker. I think it was about $125??? They have a couple of different sizes.
