I'm considering replacing the outboard on my CD26 with a four-stroke. I've heard from some of you that a Honda 9.9/15 will fit with only minor modifications. First, does the motor need to be an extra-long shaft? Are there other motors (such as the Yamaha T9.9) that will fit? Thanks for your help.

I have had good luck with my Yamaha FT9.9-EXK 4 stroke on my CD26 for the past approx 15 years. I had to install a spacer approx 1 inch between the angle bracket and mounting board to move the engine forward. It is a 25" skeg, with approx 11 inch prop w/ 6 inch pitch,
15 amp alternator, electric start, auto choke, arm drops down easily over bottom board into cockpit. This has a prop design where exhaust comes out the center in both directions...depending if you are in reverse or forwsrd. Your prop is never biting into air bubbles, thus no cavitation in reverse or forward. Thrust rating of a 30HP.

You can see the engine in the CD26 and the engine out of the boat via my CD26 Web site below. Just look at the bottom of the site page for the "engine well" link.

Re: Outboard for CD26
It sounds like I've got the exact same installation as Dana, right down to the spacers. I don't know if Yamaha has made substantial design changes in the last 15 years that might make a fit difficult. I sure do like the "dual thrust" concept of this prop.
