Surveyor Boston's North Shore
I may be leaving the Cape Dory ranks. Looking at a Tartan 34C. Speak now or forever hold your peace. I'm looking for an impartial surveyor on Boston's North shore, any recommendations? Our very well kept CD25 is for sale in the Buy/Sell section.
Thanks,
Eliot

Elliot,
Rob Scanlon on Nahant is about as professional and knowlegable as they come. He did some work for me a few years back, spent about 6 hours on the boat checking everything. He came back 2 yrs. later and inspected again for insurance purposes, no charge. If you can't find him,(he advertises everywhere) e-mail me - I have his number someplace.

Another possibility
Another fine surveyor is Norm LeBlanc of Salem. At least three of us in my office have used him, including yours truly. He's reliable and knowledgeable, and he is a sometime contributor to "Boat Craft," FWIW.

Norm did my survey, too. He crawled into places I haven't found since.Al Levesque wrote:Our favorite is Capt Norm LeBlanc. He operates out of the North Shore and can be reached at 978-774-5060, or his home phone is 978-922-7933.

Tartan 34C
If that is the centerboard version, it is strongly recommended that your surveyor look at that CB mounting big time. A friend has one and regrets the day he bought it, for the centerboard problems.
If it is a fin keel version, then one would be hard pressed to name a better boat in its class and price range.
