I just spent the weekend taking everything off my CD33 so that I could clean every last nook and cranny. What a job! It was good though because all those areas can accumulate lots of gunk over the years. Anyway, on to my question. The former owner added a third battery - wired in series with bank 1 - and mounted it in a box in the stern lazarette locker. All this weight aft seems to make the boat sit off her lines - her stern squats lower in the water than it should. I'm trying to find an alternative space to locate the third battery but haven't come up with anything yet. Maybe in the space behind the engine and under the cockpit floor? Where does everyone else have their batteries mounted?

Where are your batteries mounted -- CD33 or CD330?

Re: Where are your batteries mounted -- CD33 or CD330?
Ryan - I have 4 batteries located on my CD330. My "house bank" consists of three deep cycles located on the shelves in the starboard lazarette. Two are as close to the boats center line as possible and the third is located just outboard of the lower battery and it is used primarily for the refrigeration compressor located in the aft section of the same locker. The fourth battery is my "engine bank" and it is located mid-ships under the "L" section of the double settee berth. To compensate for the additional wire length I had to increase my wire diameter accordingly. The cables run out of the bottom of the locker and directly up the bilge to the engine compartment and the battery selector switch. I store an additional anchore and rode in the port lazarette and usually keep my bow water tank full. I have not noticed her sitting awkwardly or off her lines, unless she is just sitting deep from all the "stuff" we all tend to accumulate.

Re: Where are your batteries mounted -- CD33 or CD330?
I just purchased a CD 33 which has four batteries mounted on a shelf in the port lazarette with two forward and two just aft. I am not sure how they are wired as the owner thought 2 were for the house and one for the engine. Some paperwork on the boat suggests 3 for the house and one for the engine with a third battery switch to bting them into parallel. I hope to sort it all out this weekend.

Re: Where are your batteries mounted -- CD33 or CD330?
The only problem with Chris's suggestion is that the 33 has a quarterberth in exactly the place Chris has his batteries on his 330, which does not have a quarter birth which is why CD installed the batteries forward in the starboard lazarette to offset the weight of the hot water heater forward in the port lazarette.Ryan - I have 4 batteries located on my CD330. Hi Cris,
I'm guessing that it's O.K. to install gel cel or AGM batteries in the cabin. They are designed to recirculate the off-gases when charging. It seems like standard flooded cel batteries might not be a good idea in the cabin. Is this the way you understand it?
