coax cable on 25D

Post by John G. »

Have changed everything to bottom of mast, am looking for help as how to install new cable inside boat. The old cable is sandwiched between layers of ceiling, if anyone has ideas or has done same would appreciate your input.
thanks in advance

I ran the cable to the foot of the mast and under the sole, through setees, cabinets, etc. I was able to splice the cable with two male connectors and a coax splice through a hole in the mast by pulling the end out, splicing , and then pushing it all back in to be pulled out the foot.

This may not work on the 25D or any other boat, but it worked for me.

Cable run

The best suggestion is to run your cable and THEN put the connector on that goes to the radio. Everytime you splice (ie use a barrel connector) there is going to be some signal loss. ANd if there is an emergency, you wat ALL the signal you can get soming our of your antenna. Look around where you boat is docked, or at a local marina. If you se a boat with more than one antenna, there is a good possibility that the owner is a ham operator, Stop by, say hi and ask for suggestions or help, Hams are VERY accomodating.

I think I understand the problem. On the 25D the mast is deck stepped and is supported by a compression post. So the wires in the mast must exit at the mast base and be spliced/connected to wires that run above the headlined. The question is can you run wire above the headliner, if so what is the technique. If you cannot what is the best option. I have been thinking about this problem since I purchased Susan B, a 25D, five years ago. I, too, would welcome any responses specific to the 25D or other boat with a deck stepped mast.

Dick,

Thanks for the clarification. I guess some have managed to route new cable through the ceiling, but I have no idea how.

Were I faced with that dilemma, I might take the cable down along a bulkhead and through the sole. I'd cover the exposed cable with a teak U-channel.
