I am looking into doing some casual coastal sailing in the area of Fairhope, Alabama or maybe New Orleans and Mobile. Can anyone give me some insight to sailing in this area? I would probably be using my Typhoon Weekender and would be alone, so short hops with alot of shore side exploring is what I have in mind. Thank you.

John:
This is a nice area to sail. Mobile Bay is large and shallow, so can get a bit bumpy. However, lots of things to see. Going a little to the east via the intracoastal takes you to Wolf Bay and Perdido Bay, which are protected and offer numerous protected anchorages, etc.
email me and I'll try to respond to any questions.

I live and sail a CD27 on Mobile Bay,Fairhope borders the eastern shore,Mobile borders the western shore, with Dauphin Island and Fort Morgan at the mouth of the Bay.There are 2 Historic Civil War Forts to visit at the mouth of the Bay, Fairhope is a quaint little town with some nice shops and restaurants, and Mobile is the second oldest city in the US.
Within less than an hours driving time you can be in beautiful Gulf Shores or at the casinos bordering the Gulf along the Mississippi Coast, and of course New Orleans is a short drive as well. Feel free to E-mail me with any questions you may have.I've lived here for the past 20 years and have sailed all the ares you have mentioned.
