CD30 B Plan
Have you ever regretted not buying a particular boat? I have wanted a Cape Dory 30 with the B plan interior for a long time. I had the opportunity to buy one last year but foolishly tried to wear the owner down on price. The boat sold to someone else immediately.
There are two boats offered on YachtWorld that are priced higher than I can now afford.

1985 CD30B
I understand there were only a dozen or so of this model made. Is that why it commands a premium?

CD 30 "B" Plan
Jack,
I have a CD 30 B plan boat. Hull No. 358 (1986 model) I have now reached three-score and ten of my earthly years and I just ain't sailing like I used to (in more ways than one). Because of reading your post, I am now actually considering offering "Jambalaya" for sale. Its kind of like offering one of your children. Jambalaya has been a good child and taken me a lot of places, including Bermuda. I have just re-engined with a Beta 13.5 hp engine. I now have about 20 hours on the engine. I have also purchased a new Adler-Barbour cold machine which I am going to try to install this weekend. Boat has lots of other stuff, including an ICOM SSB. I'll try to make a list of all the "upgrades."
I looked at the website ads for the boats you provided, and concluded that they are priced too high no matter what condition they are in. I believe a CD 30 "B" boat (or any CD 30 for that matter), if its in pretty good shape should sell in the $40,000 range and that's where I am going to price Jambalaya.. I believe that's consistent with the "BUC" rating system. If you'r interested, let me know and I'll provide more detailed information.
The boat is located at the Twin Dolphin Marina in Bradenton, Florida if you want to see it.

Jack,
I also have a CD30B, hull # 359 (1985 model) that I purchased in January. The surveyors estimate of fair market value was $43,000, and although the boat was sound it needed a fair number of big ticket replacement items (roller reefing on jib and staysail, electronics, running rigging, fresh water pump, etc.). The purchase price was therefore considerably below the appraisal. I recall a previous string on this board that tried to determine just how many "B" models were manufactured and it seems to me that the conclusion was that there were only 8 or 9 of them. Good luck in your search, and I am sure that if you find one you will be happy with it regardless of the price.
