CABIN TRUNK - CORED OR SOLID GLASS - CD 28

Post by Mac »

I have a large gelcoat crack just port and foward of the mast(on the cabin trunk just at the bottom of the bridge (built up area where the mast step is). It is open and holding moisture and needs to (must) be repaired. I need to know if this area is a cored area or is it a solid glass. Also does anyone know where to get matching gelcoat for a CD 28? Thanks in advance.

Mac,
Not only is it cored, but there is 12 to 34 inch of concrete under the gelcoat & glass. The electrical wires for the light in the head and the mast light were embedded in the concrete which I discovered after I cut through the concrete. I discovered this last year when I installed a solar vent just starboard of the mast, directly over the hanging locker.I don't think there are any wires on the port side where you need to make repairs but the concrete will probably be there. Good Luck.

Since the head cabin light in s/v Dr. Pepper (also a 28) seems to be kaput as the result of a wiring problem, I'm curious to know how you repaired the wire you inadvertently cut. Did you splice or rewire around it?
Thanks.
