Where to find replacement stern vents for typhoon
I'd like to replace the old original vents on the stern of my typhoon. They work fine, but are very badly pitted. I'd like to replace then with either a new identical, or NOS part.
Does anyone know where these are available?

Most of the Cape Dorys have Nicro cowl vents. I'm guessing the Typhoon's are Nicros as well. You should be able to get them at any chandlery. If your local chandlery doesn't have them in stock, they'll order them for you. You can also try the big guys like West Marine and Defender. CLICK HERE to visit the manufacturer's web site.

Nicro has PVC
I checked Nicro, they only have PVC clamshell vents. Pretty cheesey. Perko makes nicer ones -- chrome over zinc, but I prefer stainless or chrome over brass, or even bronze if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks again!

Re: Nicro has PVC
Look again. Nicro has all sorts of vents, including both tall and low profile vents but they are PVC. They are what I've got on my boat. The tall one over the head is the original. The two low profile vents at the stern are new -- only a couple years old. You do have to paint them though, otherwise they get all gooey and yucky.sbuckley2 wrote:I checked Nicro, they only have PVC clamshell vents. Pretty cheesey. If you attend the Northeast Fleet's "Cape Dory Rendezvous 2006" on Fishers Island Sound at the end of July, and if you're lucky, you may win a bronze low profile cowl vent from Mariner's Hardware! Yup, we've got one to giveaway.

PVC
I did look. Nicro only has PVC. I prefer not to use PVC, as I would like to replace the orginal chrome/zinc vents with something at least somewaht similar in appearance. NOS would of course be best, but I may be dreaming there.
The bronze vents posted are pretty darn nice. I was in love until I saw the price! Gulp -- maybe next year...

Another source of bronze cowl vents (if you don't want to try to win one at the rendezvous) is e-Marine, Inc. CLICK HERE to see what they have to offer. I believe they are the ones manufactured by Mariner's Hardware but sold at a discount. Ahoy Captain has them too. SailboatStuff carries the ABI vents as does SailorSams. And check out the bronze and stainless vents at BestMarine.

Google "bronze cowl vent" or "stainless cowl vent" and you should find what you're looking for.

Thanks!
Cathy, you're great!
The ABI compact Cowl vent from sailboat stuff is almost a perfect match for the OEM part, but in stainless and for less than $28/each.
It looks like Anna is going to get a little more jewlery this year! Thanks again and kindest regards.
