Alberg designed Sailstar 19

Post by Tod »

I saw a Sailstar 19 for sale and was wondering if anyone could clue me in on how it differs from a Ty-Weekender. Its from either '65 or '68 and has a full keel w/ small cabin. First I'd ever heard of it.

Thanks,

Tod

Hi Tod,

I had one of these boats for a long time. It was called a Corinthian, designed by Alberg and built by Sailstar. Sailstar ceased operations and the molds were picked up by Bristol. The design was slightly changed in the 1980's, I believe, to make the cockpit self-bailing and adding two quarter berths under the cockpit seats. It was then called a Bristol 19.

It is a bit longer than the Typhoon and a bit smaller than the Ensign. My boat was a 1965 model, built like a tank. It was a great sailer and I took some short cruises on Lake Ontario over the years. Mine had a motor well on the port side of the cockpit. The mainsheet was double-ended so could be trimmed from either side of the cockpit. It was a very seaworthy boat for its size. There are a number of them around and some for sale.

Let me know if you have any more questions and I'll try to answer them.

Regards,

Jim
