CD 25D trailor-ability

Post by Brooks Albery »

My family is looking for a quality trailor sailer. Are the 25Ds suitable for trailor sailing? It also seems like it will be hard to find one for sale. Any suggestions on Web Links to find used 25Ds?

Thanks

Brooks

Hi Brooks...

The CD-25D is trailerable, but will need a tow vehicle capable of towing at least 7500 lbs.

Took a quick peek at Soundings (see URL) and there were some listed, didn't see a trailer on some. Depends on how far you wish to travel.

Triad makes trailers for the CD-25D..they're listed on the web as well.

As of the last issue of NE Soundings, there's only one 25D listed -- at Bruce Hill YS in Burlington VT. MHO is that she's overpriced, but she is an estate sale and has been on the hard and listed for well over a year.

As to 25Ds as trailer-sailers, She's a mighty "big" boat for tripping off for the weekend. Take her to the Cape for a couple of weeks, OK -- but I doubt you'd want to launch and haul one regularly.

Happy hunting...

Actually the estate sale CD25D sold, the one listed is in a bit better condition but I also feel she is overpriced(I've viewed both).

You'll need:
**A full size truck set up for hauling 8,000 pounds.
**A Mast step hinge
**A methodolgy for raising the mast including fixtures for handling

Once you are set up and proficient, you'll be able to launch and go in about 1.5-3 hours.

That price range will buy a well maintained CD 27 or 28 with a pretty good inventory. Or have prices gone up in the last few years??

Hi Neil..

I saw a 1982 CD-25D on trailer, at Port Clinton, Ohio priced at $16,500 two years ago. This introduced me to the Cape Dories, and have been looking for one ever since.

I couldn't locate the owner in the week that I was there, so can only say what exterior I could see looked fairly good. Good bottom paint and no blisters.

I paid 22k a year ago for a cd25d in bristol condition. I thought I was paying a bit on the high side, but the boat required absolutely nothing and has been great.
