Greetings

Post by MarkW »

Hi All.

Well, I finally did it. I finally registered and am posting my first message on this board.

Okay, so maybe I don’t have a boat yet, but I’m looking……. Does that count?

After sailing 26 to 39 footers for four years with a local club and taking all sorts of exams with the ASA, I am looking to get my first boat.

I finally decided to get something in the 27 to 28 foot range. It will have enough of a cabin for the occasional overnight with the kids but be on the smaller side for ease of maintenance, lower fees and possible single handing. 90% of my sailing is day or evening sails to get away for a few hours. I like the idea of the simple boat. Even though the boats I have sailed have been fully fitted out, I have never taken a shower on board and only used the stove to make coffee and tea.

Anyway, over the past couple of months I have seen quite a few boats. The two that have stayed with me are the Tartan 30 and the CD28I. They seemed to be very well built and I liked the designs.

If all goes well I will be seeing a T27 tomorrow and hopefully a CD27. It’s actually funny because I spent time sailing a CD27 with a friend of mine when I was in elementary school. We had loads of fun on that one. And here I am many years later looking for a similar boat.

I also wanted to say Thank You to all who have posted (and all who are likely to respond to this post). As I have researched different boats I have found the opinions, pros and cons, and general banter on this site informative and entertaining. Also, to the managers and creators of this board, nice job.

And so my search continues and my journey is just beginning.

Fair Winds and Thanks ………………………………………..Mark :)

Sounds as if you've been lurking here for a while, so you know that there's a wealth of information...and as many opinions as you might want, maybe more!

The Tartan 30 is a completely different breed from the CD family...my last boat was a T30. Billed as a cruiser/racer, very good sailing boat. When I moved up in size I also wanted something with more classic lines and blue water ability. But I really enjoyed that Tartan.

Good luck with your search, welcome to the board, and don't be afraid to jump in and ask questions!
