Nautical Wisdom - Please Post

A sailor travels to many lands
To anywhere he pleases
But always remembers to wash his hands
So he dont catch no diseases

Mike, that was great!

The only one I know starts with:

There once was a man from Nantucket... :D

If you care to complete that with originality, notwithstanding that the "Pelorus" limerick contest is over, you still might earn an honorable mention from Carter.

These can be as nautical as you want them to be:

Don’t forget to fly the plane. (The first rule of aviation!)

Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try. (Yoda)

Action overcomes fear.

If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. (Will Rogers)

There is no substitute for experience.

Reading is one thing; doing is something else. (Winthrop Fisher)

You can't always get what you want. (Rolling Stones)

"Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment" - Will Rogers

and for those of you who sail (especially anchor or dock) with your distaff side

"There are 2 theories to arguing with a woman...neither works"

Hello Jack:

There are few phrases I am more familiar with than:

"There are 2 theories to arguing with a woman...neither works"

I have no idea who first uttered this profound statement, but he was clearly a man of high intellect.

I have never heard a more accurate or succinct statement of the essential difference between man and woman.

It may also be said:

"I fear no man. I do fear one woman."
Fair winds,

Robert

Or, as the famed boatbuilder Harvey Gamage put it when asked to explain how he knew exactly where to find a leaking garboard, he huffed,

"Danged if'n I unnerstand all I know!"

common sense and a sense of humour are the same thing, moving at different speeds.A sense of humour is just common sense , dancing.
