Prop Nut Zinc for CD 30

Post by wiltsan »

Hey folks, I'm a little foggy from the long Northeast winter, please remind me what type of Prop Nut Zinc is best for a 1" shaft?

Thanks

Prop zinc

Post by Boyd »

Hi:

There has been much discussion on this issue since Perry Nut went under. Check the archives for more input. I have used the Camp PN-2 and PN-3 in combination for several years now and find it a good substitute for the Perry Nut. Its available online from several sources. Mine last several years in Fla waters.

This is a source of major problems with me

I have a CD-30 and am in Boston Harbor. I have a Universal M-18 and change the Prop Nut every year. In fact, it is a Size C and it always seems to be gone when the boat is hauled out. Here is my issue: The bolt that comes with the zinc doesn't fit my shaft! Last year I went to 2 West Marines, 2 Lowes, 3 Home Depots, 2 ACE hardwares, and finally a Monnick Supply and tried every size immaginable. I finally found that a 7mm hex head works, but I don't think the bolt fits right as I can't get it tight enough such that the bolt won't turn anymore.

I think next year I might have to remove the whole thing and replace it. Anyone have any ideas on how to keep it on?

Cut the bolt off a bit until it snugs up. Put a dollop of 3M 5200 to prevent it backing off. Works for my 1" shaft on my CD25D.
