The hull number is indicated by the first set of numerals in the serial number; the last set of numbers indicates the year. You have hull no. 5, which was manufactured in 1977.
BTW, if you have the original mainsail, there may be a "5" below the "C27" logo.

On my 27, there is a "Cape Dory Yachts" plaque on the top horizontal companionway teak. It has an embossed picture of the Cape Dory half hull (The CD logo) and the hull number is stamped right on the plaque. If your plaque is gone, I'm not sure how to find the hull number--perhaps another board reader can enlighten us!
