Cape Dory Brochures

Post by Stu Timm »

I am not a CD owner yet, but fell in love with the sturdy craft when I was in college, and have deferred my purchasing of a CD until my three year old daughter grows up a bit, and can help me tend the jenny.

Over the years I have visited many boat shows, as well as written to CD for literature of all sorts. Being a bit or a packrat, I have aquired a large collection of brochures of all CD models from the Ty to the 40 footer, as well as the first CD-28 power models. The brochures date from 1983 to 1987, and most contain the spec sheets listing the options etc. I also have the CD-24 Trawler as well as the CD motorsailer brochures.

Being totally sentimental in nature,I am not willing to part with these documents, since I enjoy browsing thru them after visiting boat shows and seeing what non-sense is being "floated" out there these days.

However, to those of you who have purchased used CD's and are wondering about what they came with when they were new, perhaps I can help. The brochures might add a little more back round data on your CD-whatever, or a particular spec, size or dimension that you may be longing for.

So please feel free to e-mail me at :

I can photo-copy any information you may need, and mail it to you. All I ask is a self-addressed, stamped envelope to defer the postage costs (If you don't mind xerox copies).

Thank you, and happy boating!

Gee that's kind of you!

What might be a good idea would be if you could get those brochures scanned and post the files on this board ( If possible )

There are already links to some brochures and owners manuals on this board, but the more the merrier, I guess.

What does our webmaster think?

Not a bad idea, but it would take a great deal of scanning and arrangement to create a page of these brochures. I have brochures of about 11 Cape Dory models, many with spec sheets, so if you do the math:

Each brochure is about 6 letter-sized images plus the spec sheet, which makes (7) 8-1/2" by 11" images. Multiply that by about eleven brochures, and we have 77 scans. That's alot of scanning!

If the webmaster is willing to spend his/her day scanning these brochures, I am will be more than glad to provide access to them. I regret that I am not proficient in the computer sciences, nor do I have direct access to a scanner. So the task of scanning, arranging the pages will have to be left to an "out-sourced somebody or other".

ANY VOLUNTEERS?
