Hi all,
I saw a 1974 CD25 Hull #106 at a boat yard in Annapolis. I"m very interested in purchasing her. She has been on the hard uncovered and neglected for three years. Needs much loving care which I have no problem in providing. I do have some concerns though. Water in the cabin is about 4" above the cabin floor. The headliner was dripping water. Was that condensation or water between the headliner and the hull? Would that amount of water in the bilge and cabin over a period of time present a problem? Leaking ports or deck fittings are not a problem for me. Are there any trouble areas specific to this model? There seems to be a repair to the lower rudder attatchment point ("gudgeon"?). I think it should be ok, but would seek further advice. No sails or cushions aboard. May or may not be available from former owner. How much would a new or used main and hank on jib cost? All new hoses, maybe some wiring and running rigging are obvious in need of replacement.
Any Fleet Members in Annapolis willing to look at this boat and offer an opinion?
I haven't been on this board since I sold "Adamarie" a couple of years ago. I curently own a Crealock 34 that I keep in Key Biscayne, Fl. We just bought a new home in Annapolis, and I'm looking for something to get me out on the Bay. If this doesn't work out, perhaps a typhoon.
Thanks any and all for your help. Perhaps I will once again be a part of the Cape Dory Owner's Orginization!

Project Boat??
Hi Richard:
Nice to hear from you again! As for this boat you describe, sounds like a real project boat. I would be very concerned about that amount of standing water inside the boat for that long a period, and with the headliner dripping, I would be very concerned about delamination of the cabin top and deck. If you could get this boat for something like $1500. and you are very handy, it may be worth it...but good CD25s abound and you can buy one for not a lot of $$$....my opinion without seeing the boat? Keep shopping!

Well...at long last...How are you Dick!! Moved from Stamford to Annapolis. Sorry we won't see you out on the Sound anymore.Richard Feffer wrote:Hi all,

Boy when you talk about a project boat you don't kid around! You jump in with both feet!! Sounds like a lot of work ahead but if you want to do it, who are we to say not to.
I still think I'd get a professional surveyor in to have a look. Its one thing to have a project boat but its quite another to have one damaged beyond the point of "reasonableness".
In any event...I can just see Holly stretched out on the bow, sleeping in the sun while you're sanding the teak at the stern!
Really good to hear from you again and I do remember a few pleasant days aboard Adamarie in Oyster Bay.

Even if you don't by the CD25...don't be a stranger to this board!!
Best regards,
Warren

But am concerned, will that jacket keep your dog afloat? It seems that the flotation is on her back, the wrong side of the torso. I must be missing something.

Caution
I bought my CD25 after she was on the hard for four years.

I, too, had some standing water in the bilge (not much though) and none off cabin roof top. I'd be real cautious over that aspect of her.
Either a good survey or let her go and find another.
Thanks
Dana
