Trailering a CD 22

Post by George Hare »

Within the next month or so I will be considering the purchase of a CD 22. Trailering the boat, ocassionally, is a must. Any advice on the type/brand of trailer I should get. Any advice on how to install a hinged mast step if the boat doesn't have one?

We're getting ours from Triad

Post by oldragbaggers »

We just ordered a trailer for our CD22 from Triad in Connecticut. We're paying $3900 for a lift off trailer with single axle, hydraulic brakes, bow stop and ladder, mast rack, ratchet tiedowns and 2 rear stabilizer jacks.
The former owner had a trailer that was built by E-Z Loader. We bought the boat on eBay, it was hurricane salvage, trailer did not come with it. I was talking to the former owner last night and I asked her about the trailer. She said it was a wonderful trailer and that they had converted it to be used behind their tractor. (Whatever........)
Anyway, we should be receiving our Triad mid-March and if you haven't already purchased something by then, I will let you know how it turned out.

I apreciate the advice on the Triad trailer. They are expensive but probably worth it.

About the CD 22 in Ga. I would be interested in more information as it comes available. Thanks

Triad Trailer

Post by Bob Condon »

I purchased a Triad Trailer for a Balboa 25. Michael, the owner is a wonderful person to work for. The trailers do cost a lot of money but when you see the workmanship, you will find that you made a good investment.

Another positive note is that a friend came with me to pick up the trailer. He asked Michael a couple of questions about the hydroulic brakes (not on a Traid Trailer), Michael explained the systems, the preventative maintenance and then dug up a manual for him to have.

I would very happily buy another Triad Trailer.

Thanks, Bob...

Thank you for your input, Bob. It helps ease the pain of the hemorrage occurring in our wallet right now. We plan to have the boat and the trailer for a long time (good Lord willing), so quality was an important factor. I also got the impression that Michael was a good guy.

traid trailer is the way to go, the one i got is for $2500 (when i got both of them) and it is for the typhoon and the 22. i have two of there trailers and they are the same thing, but are one axle with brakes... i pull them twice a year to the coast any where from 600 miles to 1200 miles just fine with a V6....winthrop

Why have a trailerable boat and no trailer, right?

Post by oldragbaggers »

There are so many areas of the Chesapeake to explore, and we would never have enough time to get to them all on our keel. We figured, we could dock the boat in a different place each summer to give us a new area to explore every year. Combine that with the ability to trailer to areas further afield and it opens up a very vast area for cruising. If you're not going to have standing headroom and a king size berth, you might as well make the most out of what you DO have.
Is anybody else out there chomping at the bit waiting for spring?

We have a fresh layer of snow and it's freezing out. But I still suspect that I'm only two weekends away from taking the cover off.
