Steering wheel diameter for CD30MKII

Post by king11 »

I want to replace the non-original steering wheel on a CD 30MII that I'm restoring. The wheel is a 28 in. diameter. I'll replace it with an Edson, but I don't know what size to buy. Anyone know the diameter of the original Edson wheel on this model CD? I tried Robinhood, but they couldn't help.

Try Edson

Edson might have a spec sheet for the steering mechanics of the boat. They do for the 36.

Wheel size

Post by Boyd »

Hi

I own a MkII and will measure the wheel tonight. Its more a personal thing. I find that It needs to be large enough to reach when sitting on the combings so I can steer from the side but small enough that I can pass by it easily on my many trips forward. The one I have is both too big and too small.

FWIW mine is teak and while beutiful its a pain to maintain. I would go for all SS if I had to replace it.

Fine choice of boat to rebuild. You will be happy with it.

Steering wheel diameter

Edson doesn't have a spec for the MkII. The CD 30, yes, but not for the MkII. The CD30 takes a 22in. wheel. I think the MkII was the first model with the T configuration cockpit, which will accommodate a larger wheel.

Thanks Boyd for going to the trouble to measure your wheel. I'll order a 30 in. stainless from Edson.
