I soon hope to be an owner of a CD-25D. I need to know how fast, in knots, when you are under power, at cruise r.p.m.(2400)?, the boat will go with the 7 H.P. Yanmar engine. I ask this question because I often have to motor through a pass, sometimes running at 4 knots, in order to get to the sailing grounds. I am wondering if I have a 15 knot wind and 4 knot tide to buck, will I make any headway? Also, if you own a production trailer for your CD-25D, could you give me the name and model number of the trailer. Any information would be appreciated.
GOOD SAILING...

Cape Dory 25D(Question for other owners)

Re: Cape Dory 25D(Question for other owners)
I have a 25D with the 7HP Yanmar and she makes 5.5kt at a cruising rpm of 2400-2600. I have gone against 15kt winds and 4 kt currrent with no trouble (but somewaht slowly). 4kt current alone is no problem. The engine has some reserve to push against currents up to 3400rpm, the max she will go with a 3 blade, 12"D 11"pitch prop. Very reliable engine - put 150 hours on it at 2600 avg during a cruise to the Chesapeake from CT this summer. Plenty of reserve for the currents we encountered, including some 25+kt head winds. I would be glad to answer any more questions you have. Hull #99, 1983.
