One of the good (and occasionally bad) things about this board is that - as you see - when you ask a wide open question you get the full spectrum of advice ;^).

I hope you took my suggestion about considering a two-speed mainsheet as a positive contribution; it was in no way intended as a flame. My apologies if you were at all put off.

It's your boat, and if you think you want to try moving the traveler, go for it!

It wasn't me that asked what two cents was worth. I appreaciated your input. ( except for the fact that it gives me yet another thing to think about. I found most of the replies helpful. I am looking at options. I have been hit in the neck by the sheet while jibing. Even though I was aware of what was going on and was looking out for myself, it still happened. It is also hard to monitor the tension on the sheet when it is behind you. I am still thinking about what to do

I know it wasn't ;^). I wanted to sent you an email to discuss things a bt more candidly, but didn't see an address. After reflecting on some of the other suggestions, I just wanted to make sure you didn't read my tone as critical.

Another thought that hadn't occurred to me until I read the above: On planned jibes in any sort of wind, I always reel the sheet in and then ease it out on the new heading to avoid shocking the rig. With the 3:1 purchase, I can center the boom with 5-6 single-arm pumps, leaving an arm free for the tiller (unless I'm using the tiller-pilot). This pretty much keeps me aware of where things are.

If I'm running the 110 or 150 and am worried about it laying against the spreader tips, I'll make sure the jib sheets are free and uncleat just before starting to wear ship.
